Evelyn Meinz grew up in the small town
Ottawa, Illinois. Her mother, an artist herself, introduced her to
techniques of fine art and the importance of self-expression, creativity
and independent thinking. Whether it was going to a gallery, working on
her own art, or visiting her mother’s studio Evelyn was constantly
involved in the art world. Evelyn at an early age was introduced to
ballet, which she did for many years.
She took time away from dance to attend
San Diego State University where she spent most of her time going to the
beach, spending time with friends, and studying politics. It was not until
she found the winter too cold for surfing that she decided to get back
into dance. Although tempted to return to ballet she chose ballroom
dancing for variety instead. She became an instructor with Arthur Murray
Franchised Dance Studios where she was awarded instructor of the year in
2004.
Evelyn recently moved to Los Angeles in
order to follow her dreams of dance and art. She is attending school to
receive her master’s degree in architecture as well as pursuing her
ballroom dance career as an instructor, competitor and show performer.
While she has competed and performed throughout the U.S. she has found
L.A. her permanent home because it contains everything in one place:
architecture, adventure, great music, the beach and of course a plethora
of opportunity for dance!
